A Memorial Tribute to Roman
After 13 years of faithful companionship, we lost our beloved Roman this week to old age. Rescued when his house caught fire and his owners could not keep him, he quickly won our hearts with his swagger and 'coolness'. In our opinion, Roman was the best looking Dal we have seen in twenty years of rescue, and he has appeared in several T V ads and magazines. Quite the character, Roman could leap fences with a single bound, and we would open our door to find him standing not on the hood of our car, but on the roof, like he belonged there. We thank God for the time together with this magnificent Dal, and he will be greatly missed. Mark and Pati

A Memorial Tribute to Patrick
We at Dalmatian Rescue are very saddened to report Patrick's untimely passing. Although we had not yet met him, we know he was a very special and loyal companion. Our regards and condolances to all who knew and loved Patrick. He will now be running at Rainbow Bridge with all the other spotted dogs he never met. His body will be like new running in green pastures free of pain and discomfort. Patrick will make new friends at Rainbow Bridge and watch over those still needing help here on earth. Our deepest sympathy, Pati Dane and the team of Dalmatian Rescue.

Shayna
While attending an art show one weekend, I was totally distracted by the most beautiful work of art my eyes have ever seen. She posed in her cage with her front legs crossed and appeared to be smiling at me. Dalmatian Rescue had a few dogs for adoption this particular day. I walked by and looked back at her. She was still staring and smiling at me. With no intentions of adopting at that time, I went back to give her some attention and it was all over. I immediately named her Shayna (pretty face) and told Pati I would be back for her. I went back within twenty minutes. Pati and company brought Shayna 'home' and she was my companion and best friend for the next 11 years. Her smiley face tattoo from the County was dated 1998 and she recently passed away on April 29th, 2009 from congestive heart failure. She would have turned 12 on May 21st. Shayna Jones will always be in our hearts and is missed by her six sisters and owners. We love you and miss you very much Shayna. Thank you for so many years of smiles and happiness. Kristen and Maureen Jones

Madeline
Madeline's Tribute Picture
On February 17, 2009 we lost our beloved Madeline. As I write this I can’t even believe that she is gone. Words can’t describe the sadness that I feel and the emptiness in our home and in our hearts. When I married Michael he had a Dal named Adele. She was "his" dog although I loved her she was still attached more to him. After she passed we were without a dog for about 2 years. In 2005 Michael started looking for another Dal I wasn’t sure that I wanted another dog but the family kind of out voted me. We found Dalmatian Rescue and started searching for the right dog. We attended one of the get togethers and looked at some Dals but none really fit. About 2 weeks later Pati called us on a Friday and said she had a dog in the shelter that needed a place to recover from kennel cough and needed to be picked up that day from the shelter because the dog would be put down that night if no one picked her up. Michael and I talked it over and decided that we would foster the dog for Pati for the 3 weeks or so until the dog recovered and could be adopted out. We drove to Miami to Pati’s house and pulled up in the drive way to find this skinny, sick, and dirty liver white Dalmatian who had just been pardoned from death row. We loaded her up in the car and went home. We got home and I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a doggy bed, As soon as I walked in the door and put the bed on the floor that dog just climbed in that bed and into my heart. From that moment on Madeline was my baby. This "not to thrilled with a dog" woman lost her heart to this beautiful Dal named Madeline. Madeline became the princess of the house. She followed me everywhere, if I went to the bathroom Madeline was right behind me nudging her nose in the door just to make sure I was still there. When I swept the floor she was right behind me all through the house dropping Dal hair right behind. She always had to know where I was. There was never a time when you said her name or even looked at her that her tail wasn’t wagging. She was a gracious hostess to all her visitors including the four-legged ones that came and went as fosters in our home. She welcomed Helen as a permanent fixture in our home and taught her to be a princess too and was her ears because Helen is deaf. Madeline will always be remembered and leaves her legacy of love to us to lend our hearts to another Dal in need. We love you and miss you our sweet Madeline Rose. Michael and Alice McKinzey

Nicky
I thought that I would have a few more good years with my precious Nicky, but sometimes life just doesn't give you what you wish for... I do have to say that I've has almost 11 wonderful years with my sweet boy and he always, always made me smile. From the day he ran out of the room into my husband's lap at Dalmatian Rescue, I knew we had a special dog. He was thought to be deaf ~ a magazine even did an article on my husband and Nicky and how they were overcoming obstacles. We eventually found out that his hearing was perfect and enjoyed all the times we had together. Since my husband struggled with his own illnesses, Nicky was always his constant companion, especially riding in the car. Unfortunately, my husband passed away a few years ago and Nicky became Momma's boy... wouldn't leave my side. When I cried, he licked away my tears. We've been through so much together and even made a move to Tampa two years ago. Everyone that met him loved his gentle demeanor and his good looks having one blue and one brown eye. They marveled at how well he looked even though he was now considered a senior dog. Nicky developed liver cancer and was gone in 6 weeks... I know he's at Rainbow Bridge playing with my husband where they left off. I will always look at his photos and smile and think of all the comfort and happiness that Nicky gave me over the years and still does. Thank you Pati, Mark, and Dalmatian Rescue for giving me the best dog I ever had! Sincerely, Carolyn
