Dear Pati & Mark,
I wanted to write and let you know how Austin & Blake are doing. Since adopting them about 1-1/2 years ago, we have moved back North and are now living in New Hampshire. Last year was the first time the "boys" saw snow. Blake, being the inquisitive dog that he is, was quite in awe and wanted to investigate. Austin wasn't too sure about what was happening, but as soon as he realized it wasn't going to hurt him, he began to enjoy himself, romping and bounding around in the snow piles.
Blake settled in very easily. He has a very pleasant personality and is full of fun. He reminds me of a mischievous, but very lovable, 2 year old. Late afternoon and early evenings he loves to sit next to me and snuggle in against me. When we go to the dog park, he gets along great with the other dogs and engages them in play. On the other hand there's Austin. Austin is not one to get along with other dogs. He is a little fearful and stays in the background. It has taken him a little longer to get comfortable with people also, although he immediately became my "buddy". I love him to death! The two of them follow me everywhere. If I leave the house, they both sit and in kitchen and wait for me to return. I don't remember what it was like without them. As it was at the shelter, they are attached at the hip. If they are out of each others sight for more than a few moments, they become upset and agitated. When they finally reunite, it's as if they thought they would never see each other again, what a sight. They both sleep in the bed with me every night. They will get in the crate when we first go to bed and when the light goes out, they hop on the bed. They're not too spoiled!
Both have maintained a very good weight after having put on about 2 lbs each after they arrived in their new home. Their new vet remarked about what terrific condition they were in and felt they were getting exceptional care. We found that Austin has a slight heart murmur, so we'll keep a close eye on that. He seems to know when to stop running around and to take a break when needed.
I just wanted to thank you for what you're doing. Without you I wouldn't have the had opportunity to take these wonderful "boys" into my life. Attached are a few pictures playing in the snow and just relaxing on my lap.
Carol
