Tribute To Bowie

Nine years ago, a fragile, abused and beaten down little Dalmatian came into my life. I believe Bowie was sent to me to carry me through one of the darkest times of my life. The vet said Bowie couldn't have been more than a year old when I found her. After having her for three days, I could tell she was totally deaf. Teaching her sign was a task. For the very hands I needed to talk to her must have looked like the hands that beat her. I needed to win her trust and show her that my hands were full of love for her. It took close to a year, but Bowie became one of the best companions I've ever had. She took to me and my other Dalmatian Dana who was six at the time like she had been born into the family. Of course, to her, Dana was her ears. She followed and did everything Dana did. They were great together. I've always thought of Bowie as my special needs girl. Taking extrea care to make sure she understood everything around her. 2 1/2 years ago I lost Dana at the age of 13. Both Bowie and I were so lost without her. Not only was my heart broken but so was Bowie's. She did not understand what happened to her sister. Pati was wonderful in the suggestion of the right girl for me and Bowie so that she would not be so lost to the empty silence around her. I drove to Miami to pick up Shannon. The night I got home with Shannon, Bowie became the happy, playful little girl she grew to be with her sister Dana. It was like she knew Shannon her whole life. That is the kind of puppy Bowie has alwyas been. Full of happiness, play and love. All she has ever asked of me was to love her. And that I did. She came to me like an angel sent here to take care of me so I in turn could focus on taking care of her. Now with a heavy heart I say goodbye to my little angel Bowie for God is calling her home to be with her sister Dana. He is giving her wings to take flight to the Rainbow Bridge(click here to read about Rainbow Bridge) to meet Dana there. She will live forever in my heart and in the hearts of those who knew her.
