Sammi & Duchess Dear Pati & Mark, I can't begin to tell you how much we are enjoying them. They are both such "lovies!!!" They settled right into our routine, and within a few days, it was like they were always here. These are the sweetest dogs!!! Both just want to give love and receive love. Both are true "couch potatoes," happy to lay on the couch with their heads in our lap. I feel like I am in heaven when they are on the couch with me. The first week we had them home, I told my family and friends that there was happiness back in our house, the kind of happiness we had been missing since our last dog died last May. I think if Sammi & Duchess could talk that they would tell you how happy they are. And we feel so lucky and blessed to have them in our lives. What joy and happiness they have brought to our lives. We have had such fun discovering all their little idiosyncrasies. We even found out that Sammi is leash trained, knows all the basic commands, and is very obedient. Sammi is very energetic for a 9 year old. She loves to go for walks and gets so excited when you head to the door. Sammi "smiles" when she is happy and even tries to talk at times (especially when we are getting her meals ready). Duchess knows all the basics, too, of sit, down, etc. but she also can shake hands, and does a lot of moaning when she is content. Duchess loves to play fetch with the toys, and she is fascinated with a Kong toy filled with treats. Duchess likes to sit next to you all the time so you will pet her. She has the most soulful, beautiful brown eyes. They both are "chow-hounds," and figured out quickly who the soft touch for food is (Sally). The neighbors love our girls, and everyone comments on how beautiful they are when we are out for our walks. A month or so ago, Paul took them to the firehouse. They were having a garage sale for Relay for Life and the girls loved all the attention they got from the families who stopped by. People commented on how calm and well behaved they were. We can't take any credit for that, since that is how they came to us. In the past, we have always had puppies, so this is the first time we have adopted older dogs. What a pleasure. Both Sammi and Duchess are housebroken, and have great "house manners." Anyway, we are having great fun with Sammi & Duchess, and they seem to be very happy to be finally "home." This is definitely a "happy tail" for both the girls and for us. We couldn't be happier, and I am convinced that we got the absolute sweetest, most wonderful Dals around. We want to thank you for your wonderful work with saving the Dals. If you weren't so dedicated, I'm sure these two wonderful dogs would have been lost to the world. Sammi would have been put down in the shelter because of her age, and Duchess would never have survived after Hurricane Katrina, especially considering the bad shape she was in when you received her. And we would have missed out on so much love and happiness in our lives. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Take care. Sincerely, Sally & Paul
