Savannah and Chief

Here's an update on what's been going on since Chief and Savannah made it to their new home......

The first few weeks were kind of crazy getting them acclamated to their new home.  They managed to damage a few items one day when we left them out on a trial basis to see what would happen.....they chewed up a cordless phone that they found on the counter (I'm sure it was Chief....), Savannah got into some magic markers of Hope's and ended up with pink marker on her butt.  It was funny to say the least.  They chewed on the coffee table in the family room (thank goodness it wasn't expensive....) and a few other minor things.  So needless to say, we figured they would have to be crated while we were gone for any lengths of time.  But they don't seem to mind it.  Savannah actually seems to like her privacy.  She is just too sweet.

Chief is obsessed with the tennis balls and the pool.  He absolutely would just much rather be swimming and chasing the tennis balls than anything else.  He lives for us to throw the ball.  Any ball.

Savannah tries to keep up with the big dogs but still gets a little nervous when she is trying to swim and they are splashing around her.  We let her sneak in from time to time when they are outside in the yard and she has the entire pool to herself.  She is so cute.  As she splashes, she bites at the water she is actually splashing.

Everyone that meets them just absolutely adores Chief and Savannah  It took Maggie, our Golden Retriever about two weeks before she figured out they weren't leaving and she really started to play with them.  She and Savannah like to play tug-a-war and she and Chief try to outrun each other when playing with the tennis balls.  Maggie will never be as fast as Chief is though.  When they are all running through the house chasing each other it's as if the Indy 500 is happening right in front of your eyes.  It's hilarious.

Chief is definitely a mamma's boy.  He follows me around in the mornings everywhere.  He lays at the bathroom door when I am getting ready and just stares at me.  The first time he saw me with curlers in my hair....he barked at me.  I guess he figured I was someone else.  I was laughing.  Savannah doesn't like the hair dryer.....she runs away when either Hope or I are blow drying our hair.  Then when it stops....she comes back.  Little Savannah is just a snuggle bug.  She loves being held like a baby.  I believe she has gained about 5 pounds and a little butterball.  At night, she starts out on her bed beside us....and sneaks up in the middle of the night on our bed.  Sometimes Chief figures it out halfway through the night and then he wants to join us too.  Good thing we have a king size bed.  Although, I did find a blanket that he really likes and I cover him up with that in his bed and he seems quite happy.  (They aren't being spoiled in the least bit!  HA!)

Last weekend there was a local event in one of the parks around here sponsored by the AKC.  It was Responsible Pet Ownership day and alot of rescues were there.  At the time we went....we were the only ones in the park with Dals.  Everyone just loved them!  Chief tried to play with a rottweiler.  We told him that probably wasn't such a good idea.  They were so good while we were there.  Maggie and Savannah were pooped when we got home....but Chief was still ready to go....so needless to say....he went swimming.

We haven't made it to the dog park yet but plan on it this coming weekend.  We have just been enjoying watching them swim with Maggie.....playing with Hope.....going for walks.....and throwing the tennis balls.  Savannah loves to lay on the couches at night while we are watching tv.....and Chief is usually chasing some toy around and wanting us to throw it down the hall.  We are convinced he has two gears.....GO....and WAITING TO GO!  My husband Bobby just absolutely loves Chief's drive to play.  He will have his tongue hanging down and just raring to go for more.

I took a picture that I just absolutely love and will be entering it in a photo contest for the Humane Society. Chief had been swimming and chasing balls and I took all 3 balls out of the pool and put them up on the tiki bar and he decided he wasn't done playing.....well.....you'll see what I mean.  I've titled the picture:  Bartender....bring me a ball please.  It is just too cute.

I hope all is going well at the Rescue....and I will try keeping you up to date.  Just know....they are Chief and Savannah are loved very much and seem very happy to have found a family to spoil them!

Dear Ms. Pati,

We just got out of the pool chasing tennis balls again.  It is so much fun!  Mom said that would be great to put us on the Happy Ending page.  She is sending you some more pictures to pick from.  There are so many beca
We have to go and help Hope with her homework.  She likes to read to us.  I would still rather be chasing the ball.....but don't tell her I said that.  Savannah looks tired.  Her little eyes are starting to get a little red from playing so hard in the pool.  She'll be on the couch soon.  (HAHA)

Tell  Mark hello for me....and Savannah sends kisses.
use we are just having a blast.
Love your spotted friend,
Chief

P.S.  Mom has nicknamed me "Chief the Thief" because I like to steal Savannah's toys.  (I'm really just trying to get her to play with me.....)
