This is a tribute to Topper
Nine years ago we took a few minutes on a Sunday to visit the
Dalmatian rescue picnic at TY park. We thought our young Samoyed
might need a play mate. We really never expected to come home with
a new family member but we did. Doug and I saw some really cute
Dalmatians and then there was the one that came out of his crate and
stood on his hind legs and wrapped his forearms around my husbands
waist. My husband looked at me and said, " I want this one." And
so begins the story of Topper in our life.
Topper was a deaf Dalmatian and yet he seemed to understand a
lot that we said to him. He picked up commands quickly and he
and Busch (the Samoyed) became best friends. Probably one of
the greatest achievements Topper had in life was when we brought
home our twin preemies. He seemed to fall in love with them
without hesitation. Not bad for a 6 year old Dalmatian. He
loved to sit by our son's exersaucer and let Brandon pet him.
We will ever forget the time we walked in and found Brandon at
nine months old stretching out Toppers lips as though he had
wings. Topper never moved and continued to come back to see
Brandon in the exersaucer.
His best friend Busch died suddenly 2 years ago and Topper
never seem to recover from losing her. Unfortunately this
summer (May 2006) our family lost a very good friend. Topper
passed away (at age 12 ) after experiencing a full life with a
loving caring family.
