Uno Matheny crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, January 13th. She was 11 years old and a wonderful friend to our entire family. Uno was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico and was fostered by a nice family living in Puerto Rico. From there she was flown to the US and became part of the Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida family.
Uno was adopted by our family after our Dalmatian Coco (a Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida) passed away at the grand age of 13. I swore to myself that I would wait years to adopt again, but about three weeks later I reached out to Patty and told her that I may be ready to a new friend. Patty suggested Uno (her shelter name was Dalia) because she was extremely shy. At first I was hesitant because I was still grieving over my loss of Coco. However, Pati suggested I meet Dalia. I live in Jacksonville so Fort Piece was the landing spot for the meeting. I was expecting to meet a shy and withdrawn Dal. However, when I walked up to her, she instantly gravitated to me. I hugged her and I knew it was meant to be. The ride back to Jacksonville, Uno had to sit in my lap, in the front seat and ever since that day, she was my shadow. If I got up, she would get up and follow me. Everywhere. She blended in to the household beautifully. Uno is truely missed. Thank you Pati and Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida for giving me the opportunity to have Uno in my life and as my best friend.
